Opportunities: jobs, tenders and notices

You’ll need: Opportunities — if you cannot see these, the module may be switched off for your business or outside your permissions. An administrator can change either.

Opportunities is the public notices board: vacancies, tenders, calls for partners, investment rounds. One module, because they share a shape — something is open, for a while, and somebody should respond.

The shape of every opportunity

A type says which kind it is, and the form adapts to match. All of them carry a title, a summary, a description, a category, photos and documents, plus a contact to respond to.

The two that do the real work are valid from and valid to. They are the open and close dates, and they are what stops your notices board becoming a museum. Set them when you post, not later.

There is also an application url for sending applicants to an external form, and a source url for pointing at the original notice when you are republishing somebody else’s.

The type-specific fields

  employment    -> employment_type, work_arrangement,
                   salary_range, experience_level, location
  partnership   -> partnership_type
  investment    -> investment_required, investment_stage,
                   target_raise, share_price, minimum_shares,
                   cap_table

You will only see the set that matches the type you chose, which is why the form looks different from one opportunity to the next.

Publish the salary range

Of all the fields here, salary_range is the one most often left blank and the one that costs most. A vacancy without a range gets applications from people it was never going to suit and silence from people who assumed the worst. It is the field that decides who bothers.

Featured and gated, as elsewhere

Opportunities carry the same is featured window as updates, and the same access membership types. A tender restricted to members works exactly like a members-only post: visible, locked, with an invitation.

Members-only opportunities are worth knowing about if you run an association — “our members see tenders first” is a benefit you can actually deliver rather than merely advertise.
