← Your Public Website

Your team, publicly

You’ll need: Public members — if you cannot see these, the module may be switched off for your business or outside your permissions. An administrator can change either.

Public members are the people you choose to show on your website. It is a deliberately separate thing from the members who log in to the app.

Two lists that sound alike

This trips up nearly everyone once.

  MEMBERS (settings) PUBLIC MEMBERS (communication)
  -------------------------- ------------------------------
colleagues who log in faces on your website
  permissions, approvals photo, role, biography
a login you disable when a profile you archive when
they leave they should stop appearing

They overlap in real life and not in the system. Your bookkeeper may log in daily and never appear on the site; your patron may appear prominently and have no login at all.

What a profile holds

A full name and an organisation role, a short bio for listings and a longer about for the profile page, photos, and a rank for ordering. There is also a contact link, tying the profile to a record in your shared address book.

Ordering by rank matters more here than elsewhere, because a team list read top to bottom implies a hierarchy whether or not you meant one. Alphabetical accident is still a statement.

Profiles are public, so treat them that way

Everything here is world-readable and will be indexed by search engines. Personal mobile numbers, home locations and anything else somebody would not put on a business card do not belong in a bio.

Ask before publishing a photograph of a colleague. It is their face on the internet, and archiving the profile later does not un-index what was already collected.

Bios that earn their space

“Ten years of experience in the industry” describes nobody. “Runs our Douala warehouse; the person to ask about bulk delivery” tells a visitor who to contact and why, which is the only job a team page has.

Try it

On staging.feeprime.com, add a public member with a role and a short bio and see where each field lands on the public page. Then compare it against the members list in settings — the same person may reasonably exist in one, the other, or both.
